Hobart Funk Collective
The Hobart Funk Collective is just what the name says; a band of professional musicians, brought together by their insatiable appetite for genuine funk and soul music. We play tunes from the era that made the genre famous from the ‘greats’ – James Brown, the Meters, Stevie Wonder, we also follow more current vibes with The Daptones, Jamiroquai, Tahuna Breaks, to name a few.
Whatever your event you can expect the dance floor to be heaving, brass section crackin’ and rhythm section nailing those grooves. It’s a big band with a big sound, 4piece horn section and multivocalists suitable for everything from steamy pub sessions, family friendly events to big stage festival shows.
We play regularly at The Republic Bar & Café & The Homestead in North Hobart and have done numerous private and corporate events, including The Naidoc Week Ball. With upcoming shows at The Taste of Tasmania, a couple of weddings and summer festivals it’s looking to be a funky busy season for HFC.
Full Production & lighting can easily be provided to suit any size venue.
Hobart Funk Collective – Street Show
An offshoot of The Hobart Funk Collective, HFC Street are a roving brass, percussion and vocal outfit inspired by the Second Line traditions of New Orleans. Playing a mix of New Orleans brass tunes, funky trad jazz and new arrangements of modern tunes they are a colourful musical addition to any style of event. Having begun in guerrilla form, randomly turning up at markets and events in Hobart during this year such as Salamanca, Farmgate, Wooden Boat Festival and the Taste of Tasmania, the offers of structured engagements have been flowing from around the state. Without around 10members and a bag of tunes HFC Street will create a great vibe anytime, anywhere.
A combined show with the HFC Band can easily be arranged with a roving component culminating in a huge funky onstage extravaganza.
