James is classically trained, and is proficient in playing jazz, ragtime and modern pieces and thoroughly enjoys performing. His set list includes several flashy, exciting pieces that are popular with all audiences. Also experienced in playing quiet background music or improvisational jazz. Though not a vocalist, he has experience playing in bands and duets, and has accompanied singers. James is always open for collaboration.
James has been playing the piano for 10 years. Having passed his 8th grade AMEB examination (with a distinction), and then the Certificate of Performance the following year in 2017 (with a credit) followed by passing the UTAS Music Performance unit with a High Distinction in 2018.
He has won several first-place awards at the Launceston Competitions and St. Cecilia Competitions, and has performed at the Princess Theatre, the Earl Arts Centre, the Grand Chancellor, Festivale and the Albert Hall, credits also include performing for Theatre North, and played for charities and at public events.
Based in Hobart he is available to travel elsewhere in the state for gigs.
