Matt Toms has performed up and down Australia’s east coast for several decades now.
He has a vast repertoire and experience in playing just the right thing for the right crowd – smooth cocktail tunes, pub classics, roots/reggae surf songs, or forgotten pop gems to keep things interesting. Armed with acoustic, electric, and baritone guitars, ukulele, stomp box and loop pedal, he engages audiences with old and new music, interpreted honestly and with over 30 years of experience in live performance. Such experience means that Matt has the repertoire and professionalism to adapt to audiences quickly and easily. He’s enjoyed residencies in several Sydney and Wellington bars, and performed at functions for Tourism Australia in both Sydney and Los Angeles. He now calls Tasmania home.
At one of Matt’s gigs you’re just as likely to hear Stevie Wonder followed by Spacey Jane, or Willie Nelson before Cage the Elephant, but you’ll almost always get a dose of Hendrix, Jack Johnson, Bob Marley, and Bowie. And you’ll always hear a surprising range of songs played from the heart by a guitarist doing what he loves.
In a former life he worked as a booking agent for Sydney bands, so knows the value of a stress-free event.
Matt also teaches guitar, both locally and online, and created the popular YouTube channel, OneChart Guitar Lessons. He is also a screen composer and songwriter.
He loves reaching people through music, and prides himself on being easy-going yet highly professional.
