Belle’s Boys| |
Hobart based RnB/Soul and Funk band Belle’s Boys are a passionate group of musicians coming from a variety of different backgrounds. Formed and based in Hobart, Tasmania in 2019, they have played in a variety of venues such as Altar, Pablo’s Cocktails and Dreams and Cascade Brewery Bar. Belle Richardson on Vocals, Eric Amani on Bass, Michael Chater on Guitar, Matt Meehan-Lam on Drums and Dan John on Keys.
Blueflies are a 4-piece originals/covers band with Paul Huxtable lead vocals and guitar, Steve Rogerson lead guitar and vocals, Jeff Reeve bass guitar and Kevin Regan drums Blueflies are sure to appeal to lovers of Blues and Roots. Paul and Steve started playing together as a duo in 1995 thru to 1998,- known as ‘Helen’s Idea’, with residences at the Good Woman Inn and the Blue Note during that time. In 1999 Jeff Reeve joined the band on bass guitar. The trio continued playing blues venues around Hobart notably the Republic Bar from 2000.- In 2004 Kevin joined on drums. Along with originals penned over the last couple of years, they also cover songs in tribute past masters; Willie Dixon, BB King, JJ Cale, Tom Petty, Tony Joe White and living masters, Buddy Guy, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Jonny Lang, Tom Waits, Ben Harper, Mavis Staples, Bonnie Raitt and more. There is always something special or unexpected with this band having such an extensive catalogue. Paul’s vocals and rhythm guitar, Steve’s firing guitar solos plus the- rhythm section of Jeff and Kevin keeping it tight.- They provide a top night’s entertainment and always have something to keep the dancers happy.
Dark Annie Duo| |
Dark Annie is a pianist/vocals duo, performing roots blues and jazz from the 20’s.- Dark Annie brings to life the music of Bessie Smith and other 20’s blues singers with the powerful voice of Kim Phillips and stride piano of Joseph Richards.
Dave Steel & Tiffany Eckhardt| |
Dynamic duo of the Folk/blues/roots Australian music scene, this husband and wife team, Tiffany Eckhardt and Dave Steel are seasoned songwriters and performers, combining acoustic guitars, mandolin, harmonica and ukulele with beautifully crafted songs.- Based in the far south of Tasmania, their music is inspired by the landscape, family life and life as artists. Tiffany and Dave charm audiences wherever they play with their stories and songs and have them either laughing or crying or both! This year they are working on a new album of songs written in and inspired by Tasmania: honest, touching and uplifting, this is original Australian music at its very best. Dave Steel has been writing songs and making albums for the past 30 years. As well as performing with Tiffany, Dave performs solo or with Ross Smithard on violin performing Dave’s original blues/ roots material. He has- played and toured with some of Australia’s best known artists including Weddings Parties Anything, Archie Roach, Kasey Chambers, and Kavisha Mazzella to name a few. Dave was inducted into the EG hall of Fame in 2012 for his contribution to Australian music- as a member of- Weddings Parties Anything. Award winning songwriter, Tiffany Eckhardt has- written and recorded eight successful independent releases. As a songwriter and performer, she has been adopted by the- folk/roots festival scene in Australia as a firm favourite, receiving rave reviews and radio airplay across the country. Tiffany is currently recording a new album with Dave, Ross and Anne Toner in Tasmania. Tiffany also directs choirs and works as a song writing mentor and tutor.
Elixir Street| |
Elixir Street perform an eclectic array of upbeat funk, R&B, soul and jazz songs. Let you hair down and get your dancing shoes on! Elixir Street is- Madelena, Nick Parish, Brenton Bayly, Simon Reid and Jose Mahinay Huia Iii. Madelena has been performing in and around Hobart for over eight years for both public and private events as an original artist and in a number of cover bands, and released her debut solo EP, Scrapbook, in August 2017. Nick is a jazz devotee who has trained in jazz guitar with teachers both at home and on the big island, and in 2014 commenced a PhD on jazz guitarist Jim Hall. Brenton has been playing drums since the age of eight, and since then has played in original and cover bands across Hobart and Sydney, including a national tour with Christine Anu and appearances on the Midday Show with Ray Martin. Simon has written for and performed electric guitar and bass with the TSO’s full orchestra and smaller ensembles, and has played professionally for twenty years in over a hundred bands. Jose grew up in Cebu, Philippines, where he developed a passion for music watching his dad play bass in a local band. He has played in bands since the age of seven, and has had the privilege of playing internationally was a broad range of artists and bands. Elixir Street will fill your event or venue with vibrant energy and movement creating a fun filled atmosphere.
Felicity & Harry| |
Felicity (vocals and guitar) and Harry (guitar) perform a selection of vocal and instrumental tracks from a range of styles, including jazz, pop, soul, and blues. Featuring classic repertoire from artists such as The Ink Spots, Tom Waits and Ella Fitzgerald, this eclectic duo act is perfect for any setting. The duo has experience performing across Tasmania at venues and private events.
Finn Seccombe Duo| |
Finn Seccombe is a diverse singer/guitarist playing styles ranging from pop through soul, RnB, reggae to straight jazz. He is usually accompanied by Simon Reid on guitar or bass and if Simon is already booked, with Kelly Ottoway. Finn has recorded several albums of his own, the most recent being Trumps “˜Derailed’. These songs are all loosely in the genre of roots reggae, perfect for any outdoor festival or live music event, and can be performed as duo or alternatively, depending on budget, with the full band. You can expect a high energy performance with soulful vocals and rhythmic innovative guitar work. Simon and Finn’s guitar styles, although quite different complement each other and they are always coming up with new and exiting ways to approach the repertoire.
Fiona Stewart| |
Fiona Stewart is undoubtly a singer / songwriter of international quality. Her coppery warmth and depth of her voice and songs have enchanted audiences from Sydney to Paris. She moves gracefully through the genres of jazz and blues, folk and pop, while delivering her original material in an intimate and unique style. Fiona’s background as an actress (N.I.D.A. graduate) and her rich life experience make her a moving performer. She’ll make you laugh, she’ll make you cry. She’ll make your evening. Fiona is also able to provide an extensive repertoire of jazz and popular standards in a duo format.
Folk Yeah!| |
Folk Yeah! deliver an appealing mix of easy listening ‘singer songwriter’ repertoire from American, Australian and Irish sources. Classic song writing from the likes of Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Dolly Parton, Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt & Stevie Wonder alongside Old Timey, Bluegrass & Country. Folk Yeah! perform joyfully, with innovative arrangements and harmonies. Expect a mix of classic covers and well-crafted originals.
Hui & The Muse| |Hui Tocker and Peter Hicks have been performing regularly on the Hobart music scene for several years. They are both singer/songwriters who play a variety of musical styles from blues, folk, jazz, country and rockabilly as well as their own original material. They enjoy playing at various venues from festivals local and interstate, to Willie Smith’s Apple Shed, Mona, Peppermint Bay, Wrest Point Hotel and Casino, The Longley International and The Republic Bar and CafÃ© and at private functions. While they usually play as a duo, they will also provide a three to five piece band when required. Hui and Peter bring to you, music that is harmonious, whimsical, evocative, soulful, foot stomping and infectious and together, they are captivating.
Jay Jarome| |Hobart based singer songwriter Jay Jarome comes with a unique blend of Soul, R&B, Funk and Rock. Born and raised on Bribie Island in Southeast Queensland, this young artist made the move to Hobart on a scholarship to study songwriting at the UTAS Conservatorium. Jay is currently working around Tasmania with his band, solo and in various musical lineups as either a vocalist, instrumentalist or songwriter.
Jaywell| |Hailing from Switzerland, Jaywell is a French-Australian musician with Alternative, Soul and Folk influences, translating into laid-back and rhythmic acoustic music – either covers or originals. His style can be described as “˜transformative’: Jaywell’s sets are thoughtfully arranged to present the stages of the human journey, as he seeks to reflect the good, the bad, the difficult and the peaceful events in life. If you can catch him, expect to hear some Hendrix, The Who, but also Craig David and Seal, alongside some original surprises. A bit of something for everyone!
KashKin| |KashKin are a seven-piece Hobart based band that play home grown original funk and soul music for your listening and dancing pleasure. The band have received airplay nationally, in the US and in Europe, including being featured on BBC radio on the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show where they were on the playlist alongside artists such as James Brown, Funkadelic, Michael Jackson, Maceo Parker, The Gap Band, The Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Flash and many others. They were also a main stage act at the 2015/16 Taste of Tasmania festival, and performed in the 2016 Tasmanian Composers Festival and song writing competition. The band is currently recording their first album which is due for release in mid 2016. Although KashKin play 100 per cent original material, the songs are accessible and groove orientated and sure to get you up on your feet ““ perfect if you’re looking for something a little different!
Lachlan Court| |Vocalist & Pianist POP| JAZZ | BLUES | FUNK | SOUL Lachlan’s rich piano arrangements, smooth vocals and the ability to totally immerse himself in the music, has captivated any audiences. With versatile musical experiences; from intimate jazz gigs, through to filling the dance floor with high energy rock/pop covers, he has a natural knack of being able to read the room, and select the right songs to create a positive vibe. His diverse repertoire has something for everyone as he touches on styles such as pop, jazz, blues, funk and soul. He can tastefully rearrange songs by changing speed and style to fit the atmosphere of the venue. He also leads a trio with drums and bass, incorporating funk, soul and reggae grooves as well as three part harmony to create an infectious live experience. Lachlan is absolutely passionate about music, and he will always strive to create a special performance for your event.
Mia Palencia, In Good Company| |Mia Palencia In Good Company is a unique collaboration between two islands. While- pursuing her music degree on the island of Tasmania, songstress Mia Palencia, who hails from Malaysian Borneo, approached Tasmanian jazz arranger and keyboardist Kelly- Ottaway with the idea of forming an ensemble to explore both her original music and- improvised jazz. The duo recruited double bassist Hamish Houston and drummer Liam- O’Leary, thus completing the line”up. With 15 years of experience in the music industry under her belt, award”winning jazz- crooner and singer”songwriter Mia Palencia is no stranger to the Malaysian music scene.- Having released her first jazz album at the age of 16, she was subsequently awarded Louis- Vuitton’s Generation Next Award. She has since released 5 albums and continues to be- featured at music festivals and prominent corporate events across Malaysia, Singapore,- Indonesia and South Korea. Some of her past clients include Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Porsche,- Mercedes Benz, BMW and Nokia. Since its formation in January 2012, Mia Palencia In Good Company have performed- extensively throughout Tasmania, being featured at key events, including Jazz in the Park- 2012 and Devil City Swing Festival. Their self”titled debut album was launched at the- Clarence Jazz Festival in February 2013. An invitation to perform at the Kota Kinabalu Jazz- Festival inspired the ensemble to undertake a Malaysian tour in June 2013. Mia Palencia In Good Company have since returned to Tasmania, and continue to develop- their brand of music: an eclectic mix of jazz, soul, RnB and latin rhythms.
Nicole McIntyre Jazz Ensemble| |Starting out with some of Queensland’s most highly regarded jazz musicians, a resultant 25+ yearlong exploration into performance, vocal mechanics, and a burning passion for music of all kinds; has brought Nicole- a voice that has developed a rare and natural wholeness, rich timbre and powerful dynamics with a dexterity of style and- emotive delivery that she has been lovingly sharing with consistently delighted Hobart audiences, since 2012. Nicole’s career went international in 1997 when engaged to work as a backing vocalist for Australia’s own international pop sensation “˜Savage Garden’ on their wildly successful “˜Garden of Earthly Delights’ worldwide live promotional & concert tours in 1997 and 1998. Thus, providing Nicole the opportunity to play many world class stages, venues and shows throughout her early career. Nicole continues to- pursue- her love of Jazz at- regular bi-monthly appearances with some of Hobart’s finest musicians- at Henry Jones IXL Long Bar, also plays solo gigs with her guitar and in various combos. She- indulges her deep passion for old Jazz and Blues with her 3-piece band of femme fatales “Les Femmes Rouges” and lets her hair down with her Soul/Blues/Southern Funk band of local music heroes- “MumboGumbo”. A versatile and dexterous singer, Nicole loves to mix between genres and swings from the old Jazz, Blues, Soul, Funk classics, to Folk, Gypsy and beyond. Recent 2 album offering from Nicole’s original gypsy/folk band “Guerilla Zingari”,- whom, with two full albums over the past three years achieved national airplay on ABC’s Radio National with Robbie Buck and on triple J’s “Roots n All” with Sarah Howels; conducted as successful 14 date national promotional tour in 2013-14 and played at Woodford Folk festival in the summer of 2014-15, and successive years at Cygnet Folk Festival, Huon Valley Mid-Winter Fest and many others.
