Rob ‘The Hat’ Harwood

description

Rob ‘The Hat’ Harwood arrived in Hobart at the end of 1986. After playing guitar with Dutch Tilders in Melbourne he played with National Collection for a few months before being offered a slot with The Fabulous Bluecats. Rob then ‘Found’ Kate Meehan and began playing with her, eventually starting the Kate Meehan Blues Band. Throughout the 1990s played in various acts, trios and duos as well as bands, mainly around Hobart but also around Tasmania.

Graduating from Utas in 2003, Rob ‘The Hat’ Harwood soon went to South Korea to teach and played in restaurants until 2010 when he accepted a position at King Faisal university in al Hofuf, Saudi Arabia.

After a couple of years in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Rob went to central Asia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, for eight years. Still teaching, mainly creative writing, economics, and history. While continuing to play occasional concerts.

Rob ‘The Hat’ Harwood returned to Tasmania in 2023 to retire, but playing music, improvising, creating, still excites him. He has recently been playing in local venues to audiences who appreciate both covers and his original tunes.

That’s a short version of a long story, one that still revolves around Rob’s first love, the guitar.

NOTE: Rob's is an Instrumental act only, no vocals, solo, ambience/mood music (low volume usually, unless asked to power up)
