Roz Pearson & Friends

description

Having just left her full-time teaching position, WAAPA, Jazz graduate, Roz Pearson is in the process of relaunching her singing career.  Having worked with the cream of Australian Jazz artists over the years, Roz is back with the best.  The Roz Pearson Quintet is made up of some of Tasmania’s finest Jazz artists – Matthew Ives (drums), Derek Grice (reeds & flute), Matt Rushworth (basses) and Aaron Entrez (guitar).  Together with Roz they present an eclectic mix of swing and latin jazz from the jazz standards, reinterpretations of pop songs with a swing or latin feel and some of Roz’s original compositions.  Roz combines her interest in fashion design and her vibrant music to create an uplifting, colourful and at times emotional musical journey.  At her recent concert staged at The Moonah Arts Centre Roz also launched her ten-piece ensemble – Juanita Banana & Her Sambanistas.  With a nod to one of her childhood idols Carmen Miranda, Roz puts on a fun and frenetic performance of her favourite Latin standards with a few of her originals thrown into the mix.  Juanita and Her Sambanistas are sure to get the party going.  Whether you are seeking an intimate jazz duo/trio or a swinging quintet or a full-on ten-piece, Roz can deliver.

Roz is one of those extremely talented and versatile vocalists and performers who can sing many different styles and as a story teller, is able to transport you to another place and time or just make you feel whatever the song she is interpreting is saying. Roz is a seasoned performer, whose voice always displays the most beautiful tone, with colour and movement, as she tells the story in the song. Whenever you get the opportunity to be part of Roz’s performance, you definitely feel like you’re a part of the experience and a little like family and it’s an experience not to be missed.”
