Sam and the 78s and are an experienced, fun and professional blues, soul and pop band.
The band formed in 2021 and have become regulars at popular Hobart venues including Salty Dog Hotel, The Republic Bar, Big O’s Juke Joint and The Mayfair.
Sam and the 78s have also featured at special events in Hobart such as Street Eats @ Frankos (supporting Melbourne Blues rockers ’19- Twenty'), ‘Blues and Burlesque Beats’ at Peacock Theatre, Hobart Blues Club events, the Southern Blues Music Festival and the Cool August Blues Festival.
The band’s roots are in modern electric blues, but they add a fresh and fun twist to the songs with pop, jazz, funk, soul, and rock‘n’roll.
Sam and the 78s are fronted by the smoky voiced Samantha, whose performances have drawn comparisons to Beth Hart and Bonnie Raitt. The band provide fresh grooves and jams to each performance.
Sam and the 78s play tunes from the Beatles, Bill Withers, Renee Geyer, Tracey Chapman, Dusty Springfield, Al Green, Norah Jones and Amy Winehouse as well as the Blues greats such as BB King and John Lee Hooker.
Sam and the 78s are equally comfortable delivering swaggering blues rock or gentle ballads depending on the audience and the venue. The band is as suited to performing at family friendly events (e.g. Street Eats @ Frankos and Salty Dog) as it is at late-night venues.
