    Sam and the 78s
    Music| Bands| Blues & Folk
Sam and the 78s present a powerful, professional, blues experience for Hobart audiences. Formed in 2021, they have become regulars at popular Hobart venues such as at the Salty Dog Hotel, The Republic Bar, and The Mayfair. Sam and the 78s are fronted by the smoky voiced Samantha, whose performances have drawn comparisons to Beth Hart and Bonnie Raitt. Sam is supported by a rhythmic and expressive backing band who use their well-rehearsed song structures as a basis for creative improvisation. Comprised of keyboard, guitar, bass and drums, the band use their solid foundation in modern electric blues to skillfully blend the genre with jazz, funk, soul, and rock‘n’roll. Sam and the 78s receive rave reviews from venues and audiences alike, they are equally comfortable delivering swaggering blues rock or gentle ballads depending on the preference of the audience and the venue.

    Soundweavers & the Summit Horns
    Bands| Genre| Music
Tons of experience feed into the powerhouse band that is Soundweavers & the Summit Horns. Playing masterpieces from bands like Chicago, Earth Wind and Fire, Blood Sweat and Tears, Tower of Power, Steely Dan, Huey Lewis & the News, Stevie Wonder and the Blues Brothers, with driving rhythms, sublime vocals and layered horn lines covering funk, ballads, R’n’B and soul fusion numbers. Suitable for festivals, corporate events, weddings and large or small scale community gatherings, the music works for a listening audience or a dance extravaganza. Our extended repertoire can be tailored for a concert and/or dance crowd. Nine players create an instant vibe on stage, bringing energy, technical excellence and showmanship to any occasion. Canadian trombonist Pete Rissi has made Tasmania his home, but he still lives in both places. A professional musician from his home close to Toronto he plays with well known Elvis Tribute band Memphis Rebels , as well as many jazz (Noodle Factory), rock , funk and orchestral ensembles. Pete has added renowned trumpeter Ian Cooper into the mix to create the Summit Horns, a powerful four piece unit of Mike Lizotte and Teresa Beck-Swindale on saxes, with the trumpet and trombone to drive the band. Ian Cooper spent many years playing on cruise ships with the Carnival line, playing popular songs every night to entertain the thousands of passengers. He is also a skilled orchestral performer having gained a seat in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as well as the TSO. The rhythm section is a compendium of solid players with big CV’s. Gary Evans on drums is not afraid to tackle the often complex timings in these epic tunes, teaming up with bassist Mark Cunningham – another cruise ship veteran from Sydney with many years of playing behind him. Add in well-respected Tasmanian keyboard player Steve Macfarlane and our quirky, but brilliant guitarist Richard “The Bard” Bardenhagen and this line up is on fire! The secret weapon in the band is young hotshot Ezra Taylor, who made heads turn in the lead role of Buddy Holly in the Devonport Choral Society’s musical production in the winter of 2021. His voice has a wide range and deep integrity to match a fabulous stage presence.

    The Black Swans of Trespass
    Bands| Music| RnB / Funk & Soul
The Black Swans of Trespass play forbidden banjo music. The band is the vehicle in which Australian banjo iconoclast CC Thornley breaks all the rules about banjo. Focusing on the electric banjo, CC bends and twist genres. With bass, drums and soaring fiddle melodies the BSoT play music you would least expect to hear on banjo, in a way you would least expect a banjo to play it. Funky, soulful, with a swampy, punky edge and rich Mento/Jamaican core, the BSoT takes to the stage with charisma and defiance. They will make you dance, love and rebel. Forget everything you thought you knew about banjo, and swans. Somewhere, way out there on the side of your world, some swans are indeed black, and they don’t care what colour you think they should be.

    The Seratones
    Blues & Folk| Duos & Three Piece| Jazz & Swing
After listening to the likes of Jimmy Smith, Grant Green and the jazz greats of the 1960’s, the Seratones (Finn Seccombe, Randal Muir & Thomas Hann) figured it was time to put their own slant on the Hammond trio ensemble. Their music is a testament to the importance of the song with melody and rhythm at the centre of every decision. I heard the term ‘simplexity’ recently, referring to that phenomenon that occurs when music is distilled to its incorruptible essence. The Seratones strip out all but that which is necessary to make a tune groove. If you’re planning to come along to a show, expect an authentic jazz and blues experience with keyboard wizardry from Randal, smooth vocals from Finn and swinging backbeats from the talented Thomas Hann. – Get up close to those Leslie speakers and let the shimmering waves of sound flow right through your veins.
